Hewlett Packard plans to lay off 30,000 Americans in favor of foreign replacements

In an attempt to reduce the company’s overhead costs and remain competitive in today’s fast-paced tech industry, Hewlett Packard has decided to lay off 30,000 American workers, comprising 10% of its workforce and five times the current number of Facebook employees. Ironically, while company representatives have been announcing their plans to lay off Americans, Hewlett Packard has been extensively lobbying for more H-1b workers, on the grounds that it can’t find skilled Americans to do the same kind of work.

The push for H-1b workers, foreign workers brought to the United States on work visas, has long been seen as a cost-cutting measure for mainline corporations. By doing this, corporations are able to dramatically increase their margins, while not having to actively confront the Democratic Left’s attempts to increase labor costs through excessive taxation and exorbitant mandated unpaid entitlement programs.

With the unemployment rates at historic highs, will initiatives like this and further trade agreements like NAFTA, TPP and TPAI be the nail in the coffin for the American economy?
