Dan Rather and Democrats Hammer Trump on Misinterpreted Second Amendment Remark

Former news anchorman Dan Rather believes Donald Trump wants Hillary Clinton dead.

Earlier this week Rather took to Facebook and claimed Trump made “a direct threat of violence against a political rival,” despite the obvious fact nothing of the sort occurred.

“It is not just against the norms of American politics, it raises a serious question of whether it is against the law. If any other citizen had said this about a Presidential candidate, would the Secret Service be investigating?” Rather said.

On Thursday CNN reported the Secret Service had discussed the issue with the Trump campaign. Donald Trump later said the report was fabricated by CNN.

Rather urged his colleagues in the establishment media to condemn Trump and The New York Times led the charge.

“Donald J. Trump on Tuesday appeared to raise the possibility that gun rights supporters could take matters into their own hands if Hillary Clinton is elected president and appoints judges who favor stricter gun control measures,” the newspaper wrote.

“Mr. Trump and his campaign did not treat his remark as a joke; instead, they insisted he was merely urging gun rights supporters to vote as a bloc against Mrs. Clinton.”

The Clinton campaign encouraged The New York Times and the rest of the media to exploit and twist the comment.

“This is simple—what Trump is saying is dangerous. A person seeking to be President of the United States should not suggest violence in any way,” declared Robby Mook, spokesman for Clinton’s campaign.

Mook was followed by Justin Barasky, the spokesman for the pro-Clinton super-PAC Priorities USA, who sent the clip to reporters with a note: “THIS IS NOT OK.”

The effort to trash Trump is not limited to Democrats. Republicans jumped at the chance to denounce Trump, as did Green Party candidate Jill Stein:

The Soros-funded and Democrat supported Media Matters for America said Trump had somehow victimized his supporters by characterizing them as “crazy nut jobs.”

As of Thursday, the feeding frenzy was still in full swing.

More objective, less hysterical and level-headed commentators have examined the remark and concluded Trump did not threaten Clinton.

“Donald Trump is guilty of saying many stupid things. However, saying that ‘Second Amendment people’ should shoot Hillary Clinton isn’t one of them,” writes Aaron Goldstein.

Trump’s phrasing and his unabashed off-the-cuff delivery is custom-made for an establishment media that has worked overtime to demonize law-abiding gun owners and advocates of the Second Amendment. It has ceaselessly denigrated and lampooned America’s “gun culture” in tandem with an organized political effort by Democrats to strip away the cornerstone of the Constitution and leave Americans defenseless.

“The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period,” Trump states on his campaign website.

“It’s been said that the Second Amendment is America’s first freedom. That’s because the Right to Keep and Bear Arms protects all our other rights. We are the only country in the world that has a Second Amendment. Protecting that freedom is imperative.”

The gun grabbers in the Democrat party are outraged by the fact Trump based his campaign in part on the Second Amendment. Dan Rather and the establishment media will continue to relentlessly hammer him and portray the defense of the Second Amendment as a threat.

Meanwhile, the violence perpetuated by Hillary Clinton against innocent Libyans and Syrians—the number of dead now in the hundreds of thousands—will be ignored by the establishment media.
